About Doctor Anne
I became a specialist in complex illness because these patients deserve better.
I'm Anne Van Couvering, a naturopathic physician with 15 years of clinical experience specializing in Lyme disease, mold illness, Long COVID, and the cluster of conditions that so often travel with them: MCAS, POTS, EDS, and PANS/PANDAS.
My path into this work was shaped as much by my family as by my training. My child is Level One autistic, and has Lyme, Bartonella, mold illness, and hypermobility. It took ten years to find anyone who could help, and along the way, I became the one connecting the dots. My husband, who worked as a furniture maker and builder on Shelter Island (the very island where Dr. Willy Burgdorfer first isolated Borrelia burgdorferi), carries every major tick-borne disease, along with a significant environmental burden from decades of lacquer, lead paint, and mold exposure.
I didn't choose this specialty because it was academically interesting. I chose it because I needed to understand it, and because my patients deserve a physician who does.
